HAVE YOU HEARD? HAVE YOU FELT IT? - 2019

Culture and art are some of the broadest tools in creative expression and at the same time the most individual in their manifestation.
Costa Rica is undergoing a process of transcendental change, where the fundamental structures of our society are being questioned day by day; that is why, as an artist, I cannot postpone presenting this artistic proposal that, as a “social practice” shows the daily fiber of the most vulnerable: adolescent mothers at high social risk.  Since 1998, with my exhibition “About hope” (National Prize 1998, Aquileo J. Echeverría), I have developed research and projects with adolescents. As the years go by, I still think that it is imperative to accompany this age group in a society where individuality tends to be erased in order to conglomerate citizens into masses that lose their identifying roots, their values and essence.
The montage installation that I present today is the product of many creative processes and it aims to be the "voice" of the teenage mothers, through their work and their stories, shown from their point of view. It is a mirror of the reality and the difficulties that adolescent mothers at high social risk experience in our country. They appear fragile without hope or strong and struggling... however, their future is full of uncertainty.
