THE BORDER: Immigrants© 2018

This work begins with the overwhelming immigration of Syrians and Africans to Europe mainly from 2015 onwards and follows the path with Latin American, undocumented, asylum-seeking, trafficked and desperate immigrants.

As a Costa Rican artist, it is an obligation to recognize issues that concern us all globally, and that grow and worsen due to the demographic explosion annually. This is an example of an ongoing investigation that aims to document from different social points of view that incessant and inevitable change of human geographies that move day by day from one territory to another, always with the hope of finding a better future... but does it come true??

These a series of works on canvas & collage with acrilic paint.

“The Beast”, that is, one of the many trains that has carried thousands of immigrants from the southern border of Mexico across the territory to the border with the USA. (They are also known as the trains of death). The Beast is the name of a network of freight trains that transport fuel, materials and other supplies on the railroads of Mexico, also used as a means of transport by migrants, mainly from Central and South America. However, this way of traveling is extremely dangerous and is not authorized by the Mexican State. Fleeing, hiding, paying attention to what the “coyotes” or people who charge them a lot of money, sometimes victims of violence, say, they never make it to the border with the USA…
